that's a fine pick in Krebs, I really wonder if he will fall down even further because of the injury |

I have the 14th pick in hand, just waiting on rationale for the selection. Have PMed Karine for the Montreal pick.... |

Sounds like #Flyers have made progress with pending UFA Kevin Hayes. No guarantee it gets done, of course, but certainly trending in that direction. |

As a result of Karlsson re-signing with San Jose, the Senators will receive a second-round pick in 2021 from the Sharks |

Pretty much same deal for Nelson by Isles.....and Hayes (same amt. of points) is better defensively...no? |

If Hayes skips going to UFA to sign a $6M AAV contract I'll eat my words for sure. No argument about that. That would be such a painfully stupid decision by him.
Hayes is the better player by a small margin, yes. But if he signs for over $7M (I have to imagine that number isn't too far off base if he's passing up the chance to take meetings with teams and start a bidding war) that's absolutely terrible.
$6.5M would be fair for the Flyers and $7M+ would be comically stupid. |

It will be dumb if AV switches him back to being strictly a defensive center. Quinn had him playing both and he was putting up his best numbers. |

I don't think he'll be in a defense-only role at all, but I just have my doubts about him really ratcheting up the offensive output to the point where he was worth giving up something like $7.25M in cap space for. |

I agree...he's "worth" 6.5mill. Why he wouldn't check out other teams is beyond dumb. Kane signed a 7mil/7 year deal a year or two ago, and he's got same amount of points as Nelson and Hayes and the Sharks are maybe looking to get rid of him after the EK signing.
Im in the camp of sign some high $$ superstars, sprinkled in w/ guys on ELCs , bridge contracts, and some high value/low $ bottom six guys.
There aren't too many mid/high-range priced guys who out play or even equal the value of the contract they sign. |

Kane deal is pretty bad too, but at least he's gotten to 30 goals twice (not that I'm giving him big credit for one of the two times being so many years ago with WPG). But yeah, I'm in agreement that that deal is kinda bad too.
I really think that, for Hayes to pass up the one opportunity he has to have teams fighting for him, the Flyers will have to pay him enough to alleviate fears that he could've done a lot better on July 1st.
And yeah, there's no truly competitive team that doesn't have guys pulling weight who are on ELC's or cheap first RFA deals. |

People look at me sideeyed when I say more and more the NHL is becoming closer to the NBA for this reason. You get the right stars and supply adequate depth, you really can win a ton in this league. Look at how much money for example Sid made Connor Sheary. Make sure you have the right core, then just get decent depth guys |

The NBA sucks though with the max deals. Only being able to offer a capped amount of money means players will keep just signing in the big markets. At least in NHL you can offer a free agent however much money you want |

Get a #1 Center and have a 2A and 2B center, and mix and match around that. |

and then we get a lockout where the owners blame the players about their contracts. maybe the owners should rein in the GMs |
